Site health is good but I’d like to install a few extra plug-ins for security. Not that I’m getting a bunch of traffic right now but maybe later I’ll put a hyperlink on Linkedin for more traffic and maybe some feedback. I do enjoy just keeping this as a journal of sorts for all of my tech goals and current projects. And of course a bit of reality!
Pandemic Update
So I’ve finally moved and settled for now. Just getting back to a routine schedule and the quarantine stay-at-home deal is extended until the end of May. Who knows, it might get extended for another month. Staying positive is helping and setting some more goals for myself for next month as well. Planning to finish another Freecodecamp course next month! Algorithms and data structures, fun!
React Courses
Looking for react courses and looking forward to seeing how its applied to native apps. React Native and React are apparently different, looking into this as far as how the code will look. I just need to wrap my head around how it works. Should be fun, hopefully I can find some time to check it out this week in between moving. What a world.
Styled Components
Another great thing I love about the react library is how classy and clean the styling can be. Very excited about not having to use new react syntax for css3 because it just feels like home. Pretty cool, makes working on react projects a lot less intimidating as far as messing up something as simple as a styling error. Ten points to the folks who came up with it!
Pandemic Easter
Didn’t really feel like Easter even though the food and family were still around for the holiday. Really shows how old I’m getting, I’d rather be online reading documentation than celebrating. Maybe it’s just that family isn’t as stimulating mentally anymore or at least entertaining for me. Eh. Either way I did enjoy a little break and ate what I wanted, except liquid calories of course.
Eslint
Not sure If I hate eslint linter or if I really like it. At this point the rules can be a little irritating but it does help to catch mistakes that I wouldn’t usually catch first glance. Trying to work with it is a change of pace. I just need more time with it and It does make sense to have in place working with a team. I get it. Fun.
First Component
Writing my first react component and it’s kinda weird remembering the syntax and trying not to write vanilla JavaScript. I’m gonna need a lot more practice with this, I can tell the code is easier and quicker to write but I’m getting hung up with constructors, props and state. Need to review a few more simple component functions to get a total understanding. At least I started, I’m proud of myself.
Next Courses
You know what? I’ll probably go ahead and do the Freecodecamp course on react as well as the Udacity course. Might as well submerge myself into looking at components and get used to how the programming patterns are used. I figure the more I look at this stuff, the better understanding I’ll have for understanding the syntax as well. JavaScript seems alot easier to play around with using react, a lot more fun. Whew thank goodness.
Goals For Today
Today I plan to finish up an Intro to React course on Codecademy. Once I finish that, I’ll be on to start the free course on Udacity for React Developer nanodegree. It’s only free for this month on Udacity because of the ‘Stay at Home’ request from the state for the prevention of spreading Covid-19. Basically everyone is stuck at home with nothing to do, haha sucks for them!
Blog Feedback
I got some feedback on the blog today and It’s looking good so far. Just have to make some minor adjustments here and there and get rid of some content. Gonna edit some stuff in css and take out a few things as well. Plans on getting all this done maybe tomorrow. Good day today, drove to the north side to visit family. Some places you never really forget, even from your childhood. Some things change and some things stay the same.
